Challenge Yourself with Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga Challenging?

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Feeling disconnected?  Looking for a way to begin to transform your life?

Restorative Yoga is a way to find transformation.  This is a subtle practice that creates space to come to your own heart.

This is a practice where we honour our body, mind and spirit.

Restorative yoga brings us from activity to receptivity.

As we enter our restorative yoga practice we use props to honour and support our bodies creating the space and ability for the tension to melt away and be released from our bodies.

The asanas in a restorative practice are the most challenging postures we will practice.

It is because we are quieting the mind and sitting in the silence. This is the challenge!

We live in a world that speaks to the idea of doing more is better than just allowing ourselves to be in the silence.

The quiet of the practice permits us to delve deep into awareness of our physical body, emotional body, intellectual body and our spiritual body.

Restorative Yoga provides us refuge within ourselves from the chaos of our lives.

Sleepy time yoga is what some may call a restorative practice. And the reality is you may sleep through the restorative practice because the body is needing rest.

Our bodies are deprived of rest so your practice may start with sleep and will evolve as any yoga practice evolves.

A restorative yoga practice soothes the soul and supports our nervous system.

As we navigate stressful days and events in our lives our sympathetic nervous system is activated and we are on high alert.  When the sympathetic nervous system is activated certain “non vital” systems shut down such as our immune system and digestive systems.

When I think about these systems going offline I am not sure I would think my digestion and immune system are non vital.

A restorative yoga practice allows us to move into the parasympathetic nervous system.  This is the part of the nervous system where we can rest and digest. A place where we can bring all of our systems back online and begin to function in a healthy way.

How amazing is it that we can bring our bodies back into a state of health by making time for us in a restorative yoga practice; by simply allowing ourselves the opportunity to rest.

More restorative yoga benefits:

?‍♀️ Improves flexibility

?‍♀️ Builds mindfulness

?‍♀️ Creates self awareness

?‍♀️ Reduces Stress

?‍♀️ Improves Sleep

These are just a few of the benefits.

With all of these benefits why are we not all doing restorative yoga every day; it is because we are programmed to believe resting is lazy.

I am here to tell you it is NOT lazy. It is necessary.
